Assembly Instructions

After your grilles arrive you will need to assemble them. Our grilles are shipped K.D. (Knocked Down) which offers you several advantages.
 
 

• Unassembled grilles "travel" better and are much more safely packaged.
  
   
• Unassembled grilles take up less space than a fully assembled grille and shipping smaller packages helps in keeping our prices low.
   

Carefully unpack the grilles from the shipping container. Each grille will be sealed in a poly bag. (Note: Double Hung Grilles that are ordered as pairs are sent with both grilles in the same poly bag). 

1. Once you have checked to be sure you have received all the grilles on your order, you should open each bag separately and make sure you have received all the bars that make up the light pattern you requested for that size window. You may find extra bars in the bags as you open them. This is normal. Please keep them in a safe place as you may wish to use them to replace a damaged piece later.
   
    
2. After you have verified all the materials have been received and inspected the grilles should be assembed prior to finishing. (Note: If you paint the grilles prior to assembly, take care not to apply excess paint in the areas where the bars intersect or where the fasteners operate. Too much paint may interfere with assembly and installation).
   
    
3. Lay out the bars in the pattern that will be inserted into the window. Place a small drop of wood glue into the channel cut into the top of the bar and then place the opposing cross piece down into the channel and apply light pressure until the bars are flush on the top. (See picture below)
   
    
4. Allow the glue to dry completly before inserting the grille into the window opening. Fastening instructions are included with each grille.

5. Pine grilles should be finished with a quality paint or stain prior to installation. Pine grilles are sold unfinished so you can choose the method of finishing to match your decor.
